It has been exactly one month since embarking on my blogging journey, and I have successfully reached over 2,000 monthly viewers! As I continue creating content and building my blog, I will be doing monthly overviews of where I am at in creating a profitable website. I will include all of the wonderful tips and tricks I have gathered along the way as well as any resources that made my life easier!
That being said if you are considering creating a blog, I highly encourage you to start now. In the blogging world nothing happens overnight. It will take time, consistency, and patience. If your goal is to make income then you will have to put in tons of effort before you begin to see a profit. So stop putting it on the back burner, and start today!
Finding your domain name & niche:
The first thing you’ll need to figure out is what you want to write about (your niche in blogging terms) and get creative with your domain name. Make sure it is open enough for you to create tons of genuine content, but focused enough so that you can set clear goals and help your readers tackle specific problems in their own lives.
Pro tip: Finding subjects you are passionate about will allow you to create content in a more genuine way. You can also focus on areas you are extremely knowledgeable in which will cut down on research time. It is important to remember that your unique writing style will sharpen over time, and change as your skills develop. Be patient!
Create your website using WordPress.
There is a reason why so many bloggers rave on and on about WordPress. When I started my blog, I was extremely intimidated and decided to for a more user friendly option since I had no experience in creating a website. I ended up launching my website through GoDaddy’s website builder. This was decent at first, but I was extremely limited with design and functionality. My blog looked really generic and did not flow well.
If I would have listened to all of the advice from other bloggers, I would have saved myself a lot of time. I ended up recently rebuilding my entire website from scratch through WordPress and transferring over my domain. I lost tons of time trying to get all of my information and blogs moved over. Soon I was learning an entirely new process of website building altogether which I could have avoided by trusting the wisdom of those with experience.
Overall, the process was extremely worth it because WordPress has so many awesome tools and functions that you won’t find with a cookie cutter website template. I highly recommend taking the extra time in learning how to utilize WordPress, because eventually you will master website building and outgrow other methods. My blog is now a better reflection of myself and I can take pride in knowing I built it!
Creating interesting and relevant content:
Now it is time to start writing blog posts. One really important thing that I learned during my first month is the importance of a schedule. I was so excited once I launched my website that I spent every hour of free time I had dedicated to my blog. Eventually the inconsistency took a toll on me and I wasn’t being as productive as I could have been with my time.
After the first few weeks, I decided to create a blogging schedule for myself. I will get more in detail in another post but to keep it simple, I really try to limit the hours that I spend creating content by scheduling my posts in advance. This prevents me from feeling overwhelmed because I am not as rushed to get content uploaded .
Life can be unpredictable, but a successful blog requires consistency.
Currently my schedule is to post a blog every Tuesday and Thursday. In between those days I primarily focus on promoting my blogs and brand on social media outlets. I prefer to work two weeks in advance so that if something arises in my personal life, the quality of my website will not suffer.
If you plan on getting into affiliate marketing and ads, most companies will want to see that you are extremely consistent with your work. Make sure that the goals you are setting for yourself are attainable. You can choose to post multiple times a week, once a week, or even bi-weekly but commit to a routine that works with your lifestyle.
Below are a few tips I wish I knew the day I launched my website:
Instead of trying to promote on various platforms, start building a strong presence on one or two social media outlets.
Do not feel pressured to accomplish everything at once. Creating a successful blog takes time. If you are promoting on too many social media platforms initially, you may end up feeling like you are spread yourself too thin.
My FAVORITE platform to utilize is Pinterest. I highly recommend spending more of your focus on this outlet (especially if you are creating a lifestyle blog) because it is visually pleasing and easy to promote your brand. Group boards are amazing resources and you can build mutually beneficial relationships with other bloggers by joining them and sharing each others content!
Eventually once you master a few, you can start building a presence on more social media platforms.
Use scheduling apps to allow you more time to focus on your content.
It can be easy to get caught up in the promotion side of your business because you want to reach as many viewers as possible. This makes finding a balance between promoting and creating tricky, especially in the beginning.
It may be difficult to find what scheduling method works best for you. Personally, I swear by Tailwind. This company has truly made it so simple to schedule pins on Pinterest and saved me hours of time with promoting. They even generate the most optimal times for your account to post based on your followers, so your pins have the highest chance of getting views! I currently have 400 pins scheduled over the next week so that I can focus on creating new content.
Tailwind also created a system called “Tribes” which is the Pinterest equivalent to Facebook groups. You can join up to five tribes to promote your brand efficiently. Most tribes have a rule that for every pin you submit, you must share the work of another. One of the pins I submitted has been shared 190 times, and 43 times on Facebook through utilizing this resource. Im telling you it really works!

Join groups on Facebook dedicated to blogging
This may be the most important tip of all! Facebook Groups are a great learning tool for new bloggers. I have built strong partnerships with other bloggers who have similar content, and been able to promote my brand. I recommend joining 5-6 groups and being active on these pages. The purpose of groups is to provide an open forum to ask questions, receive feedback/constructive criticism, and inspire you.
Once you become part of the blogging community, you will realize just how welcoming and supportive this world is. Keep in mind that if you are helping others be successful most of the time the favor will be returned. Give feedback on logo designs, answer questions you have the answers to, and promote other blogs. Eventually you may be able to guest post on other websites and create more exposure to your own blog.
If you are passionate about what you do, it will show in the quality of your content.
I have managed to reach over 2,000 viewers and I haven’t even promoted through friends and family just yet! My personal goal is to have 20 blogs posted before sharing it with the people I know. First impressions matter. It is important to have enough content to engage the reader so they have a reason to come back. You will find that some bloggers prefer having blogs written before launching their site. I personally preferred to have the ability to promote while building.
My goal is to be as transparent as possible and share my journey along the way.
When you are passionate about your work then your viewers will be able to feel it. You can promote your blog however you see fit. If you are not ready to share with those around you, that is perfectly okay. It is possible to get exposure and land affiliate marketing deals by driving organic traffic to your website. Be patient with yourself and give yourself time to grow.
I have absorbed as much knowledge as possible and I am continuing to learn new things every single day. I have made mistakes, learned from them, and kept my vision alive through consistency. I’ve created a solid foundation to build my business on, and met so many awesome people along the way. I truly enjoy having an outlet to express my creativity and I encourage you to start today.
